(The Star, Metro - Thursday November 15, 2007)
ON Nov 2, I was robbed by a gang while on my way back home from office. The incident occurred about 9.30pm when I was slowing down to stop at the traffic light at Phileo Damansara 2, Petaling Jaya.
My car was the last in the queue and there were a few cars in front of me and on my right side.
A motorcycle with two persons on it stopped in front of me and both men were looking at me.
I turned to the left side and noticed another guy standing beside my window and there was a motorcycle there as well.
I thought nothing could happen as my car doors were locked.
Then I saw the guy who was standing on the left side of my car using a heavy object to smash the front left window and then put his hand in to take my handbag placed on the seat.
I held on to my handbag but he managed to pull it away.
The group sped-off after making a U-turn at the traffic light.
The whole thing happened so fast I couldn’t note the number plates of the two motorcycles.
I then drove straight to the SS2 police station to make a report.
Later, I contacted the banks to freeze my savings account and credit cards. I lost my identity card, driving licence, ATM cards, digital camera, thumbdrive, mobile phone, crystal, house keys, passport photos, Biodisc and cash.
The next day, someone found my handbag dumped outside the Andalucia Condominium in Pantai Dalam.
When I went to recover my handbag, the only things left behind were my business cards, some of my make-up , credit cards and my old driving licence.
The lesson that I learnt is to take extra precaution while driving alone at night.
Please remember not to put your handbag at any visible spot in your car, especially the front passenger seat.
Even if your car doors are locked, this does not mean that the snatch thieves are going to let you off just like that.
Though I am upset and angry over the incident, I am thankful that I was not hurt. To all women drivers, please be extra cautious when you are on the road alone, especially at night.
